I’m in Year 12 – why is it so important to get Up Learn now (rather than wait for Year 13)?

Using Up Learn in Year 12 helps you get the best predicted grades (and reference from your teacher) possible.  These are important aspects of your university application.  So, if you want an offer from your dream uni, use Up Learn as soon as you can!

Do 97% of students that complete Up Learn courses really get A*-A?

Yes!

If they didn’t, our money-back guarantee would have bankrupted us by now!

Will Up Learn work for me?

Absolutely! We’ve designed Up Learn so that it will work for everyone. It doesn’t matter what your background or starting point is, Up Learn is right for you.

We’ve had students go from a B in their mocks to an A*.

And, we’ve had students go from an E in their mocks to an A*.

To find out why Up Learn works for anybody, check out the Science Behind Up Learn.

What happens if schools close and/or exams get cancelled due to COVID?

In the event that either schools close or exams get cancelled, having Up Learn helps minimise disruption to your education and put you in the best position possible for things to come.

  • If you are in Year 12, you will be able to continue to learn using Up Learn throughout term-time and be well placed for UCAS applications, Year 13, university and beyond. Your predicted grades will be judged by your teacher using evidence of performance in mocks, assessments and schoolwork. Through using Up Learn to understand your subject better, you will perform better in all of these areas and receive better grades! You will then be less stressed over the summer and next year when everyone else is playing catch-up
  • If you are in Year 13 and exams get cancelled, your A Level grades will likely be awarded by teachers (using evidence of your work) or via mocks and assessments. Through using Up Learn to understand your subject better, you will perform better in all of these areas and receive better grades!

What if I get distracted while learning?

Students have better luck with us!  Lisa found our videos so engaging that she described us as an “educational equivalent to Netflix”.

The A*-A Guarantee

A*-A guaranteed? Is that for real?

Every student is guaranteed A*-A results – or your money back – regardless of your background or starting point.  To read more, visit Our Guarantee!

How do I get my money back?

Why do you offer a guarantee?

We also wanted to offer students, parents and schools a risk-free way of using us.  This is also why we offer a three day free trial in which you have full access to the Up Learn platform, just as our students do.

Up Learn Courses

A Level Economics

A Level Maths

A Level Physics

A Level Psychology

A Level Chemistry

We are actively developing courses for more A Level subjects. All announcements on new courses will be made as soon as they are available.

Are Up Learn courses exam board specific?

Yes.  However, you can (and should) also use Up Learn if you are not doing one of our exam boards.  There’s loads of overlap between exam boards and even different education systems (APs, IB, etc)!

What exam boards do you offer?

This depends on the subject!

We aim to cover the three main UK exam boards: AQA, Edexcel (Pearson) and OCR.  Depending on the subject, we may support WJEC, CCEA, Cambridge International and IB. Head over to start a free trial and you’ll be able to see which exam board is best suited for you

What if you offer my subject, but not my exam board?

Don’t worry!  You can still use Up Learn for your learning, as there is plenty of common content between the different exam boards for any given subject.  We recommend that you look at what exam boards we offer, and choose the syllabus that best matches yours.

If you don’t know which of our exam boards this is, get in touch with your teacher to see which exam board they think will be closest to the content you will learn in class. You can also start a free trial in each exam board and compare the subsections to your specification.

How long does it take to make each Up Learn course?

Each minute of an Up Learn video takes ~16 hours of work to produce!  Courses take hundreds of thousands of hours to make.  The quality is top notch!

Are you officially endorsed by exam boards?

No – we are not affiliated with and do not have any relationship with any exam boards.

What do Up Learn courses contain?

Depending on your plan, you will receive access to:

  • Video lessons
  • Quiz-check questions
  • Video quizzes
  • Exam how-to videos
  • Definition memorization and recall sessions
  • Progress quizzes
  • Exclusive exam practice papers
  • 24/7 tutor support
  • Exam practice paper marking
What is so special about Up Learn video lessons?

We employ world-class teachers who are experts in their field. They make videos that are fun to watch, teach you really quickly and help you absorb and retain content much more easily than conventional learning/teaching

What are the quiz questions for?

They test that you understand the material and provide you with feedback on how you are doing.  They help you dispel misconceptions and help you keep focused during videos! Finally, they stretch your understanding of new ideas which makes them easier to remember in the long term!

What are the exam how-to videos for?

Having good exam technique helps you pick up extra marks.  We show you what this looks like for each subject so you can pick up every single mark possible.

What is the tutor support for?

Our tutor support provides you with an alternative way of understanding topics, and can help out with any extra questions you have! The videos, quizzes and practice questions do the teaching, but Up Master students can message the chat channel to ask our tutors about any topic, question or piece of work that they need an extra helping hand with.

Up Core students can still chat with the Up Tutors, but will only receive help on the Up Learn course content.

How does the tutor support work?

You can ask questions or send screenshots over live chat (the box in the bottom right hand corner).  We then promptly reply with clear explanations to help you out.

Can tutor support really work over live chat?

Our students tell us they are often surprised at how well it works! Imagine you have a friend with an expert-level understanding of your subject and how best to answer exam questions, and you can just text them when you get stuck. That’s what Up Learn tutors do for you 🙂

Where do your exam practice papers come from?

They are written exclusively for Up Learn by official examiners. They are not past papers, and are completely unique to Up Learn.

What is the difference between Up Core and Up Master?

Up Master contains all of the features of Up Core, but adds:

  • The ability to get two exam practice papers marked by an official examiner
  • Unlimited one-to-one 24/7 tutor support from Oxford/Cambridge/LSE/Imperial Up Tutors. ‘Unlimited’ means that questions are not limited to just those arising from Up Learn content, which is offered on the Up Core plan, but any question at all you might have around your subject.

Students

I’m in Year 11 – can I use Up Learn?

Yes!  We offer content for A Level subjects, so you can use Up Learn to get a head start! Simply select year 12 when you start your free trial.

How long do Up Learn courses take to complete?

Up Learn courses can take 8-16 weeks to complete from scratch based on 1 hour per day.  This varies by student and subject – many students will not need to start from scratch to achieve A*-A!

If I’m already at an A*-A standard, should I still get Up Learn?

Yes – Up Learn can help you solidify your grades, and help you score higher A*s/As.  Typical Cambridge offer holders have 94-96% UMS, with your chances of an offer increasing with your UMS score. Benefit from all of our exam preparation content and exclusive examiner-designed practice papers.

Can I study more than one course at a time?

Yes!  You can study as many courses as you like. Using Up Learn will give you a big advantage when it comes to the exam, so using it for all your available subjects will help you perform better.

How do I sign up for Up School?

Head to our School Features page and fill out the enquiry form at the bottom of the page.

What do I do if I have questions?

Your school is assigned a dedicated account manager as a main point of contact regarding any school-related queries. Additionally, students and teachers have access to 24/7 live chat support through the website for any questions about the subject, course or anything they’re having difficulties with

How do I create Up Learn accounts for students?

Your dedicated account manager introduces themselves by email and requests a spreadsheet with names and emails of teachers, students, and other relevant staff members to set up their accounts, along with a signed data processing agreement to comply with GDPR. There is no limit to the number of administrative accounts you can have.

Is there any training for teachers?

Your account manager will invite you to book in for an online demo – this is mandatory for at least one subject teacher to attend. It’s the perfect opportunity to better understand the website’s features and functionalities, discuss how to get the most value out of Up Learn in your school, and address any initial questions or concerns you may have.

When will my students be able to access their accounts?

When Up Learn has received the spreadsheet, staff and students will be registered within 24 hours or on an agreed date, at which point they will each receive confirmation emails to activate their accounts.

Do you have any resources for parents and students?

You will also receive templates for introducing students and parents to the value of Up Learn, along with other resources to help you make the most of the platform.

How can I track my students’ progress?

Log-on to the teacher dashboard. There, you will have data that measures progress, tracks results and identifies students’ strengths and weaknesses.

Plans & Pricing

Where can I view Up Learn pricing?

Up Learn pricing

How long will I receive access for?

This depends on the plan that you purchase:

  • For plans where you pay upfront, you generally have the option to purchase access until the end of the current academic year (August) or the next academic year.  You may also have the option of access until the academic year after the next.
  • For weekly plans, you have access until you cancel your plan (if subscribed for less than 12 weeks) or until the end of the current academic year (if subscribed for 12 weeks).  You pay for a maximum of 12 weeks at a time – access afterwards is free for the rest of the academic year.
Why do weekly plans charge weekly, for 12 weeks?

We designed weekly plans to match how you would pay for a tutor – weekly, and with the chance to cancel anytime.

12 weeks is all you need to complete Up Learn, so we don’t think you should have to pay for more!

How can I get a scholarship?

Head over to our scholarship page to check if you’re eligible. If you meet our criteria, you can click on the ‘Request Scholarship’ button to fill out our application form. Alternatively, you can message our live chat and the form will be sent to you there.

How can I renew my scholarship?

If you had a scholarship with us last year and you want to renew for the coming year, message us on our live chat and we’ll extend it for you. If you last had a scholarship with us over a year ago, you need to resubmit the application form.

Why isn’t Up Learn free for everyone?

Hundreds of thousands of pounds go into developing our courses and technology.  We have world-class teachers, tutors, illustrators, animators and engineers.

When you compare Up Learn to other revision aids or services like academic tutoring, we promise a lot more at a fraction of the price!

Up Learn courses are priced to make sure that they are accessible to as many people as possible. All our paying students help contribute to our scholarship scheme, which makes our courses available to those who would otherwise not have access to a higher quality of education.

What payment types do you accept?

We accept VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Google Pay and Apple Pay.

About

What is Up Learn?

We are an all-in-one online education platform. We use AI (artificial intelligence), applied cognitive science and world-class educators to help A Level students achieve A*-A results.

What is Up Learn’s mission?

To make the most effective learning experience in the world accessible to all.

When was Up Learn founded?

We were officially founded in 2016.  Work on Up Learn started in 2015.

Why was Up Learn founded?

In 2010, our founder, Guy, fell ill with glandular fever at the beginning of his A Levels and missed an entire term.  Faced with the prospect of re-doing the year, Guy spent some of his time off researching ways to learn faster and smarter.  He discovered research on cognitive science and applied key techniques to his learning.  Upon returning to school, he rose from below-average grades to top of the year (to the surprise of his teachers).

Guy realised that there were many students who could benefit from this research.  However, it was also relatively difficult to apply.  As a result, he founded Up Learn to make this learning experience accessible to all.

What hardware do I need to use Up Learn?

Up Learn will run on most internet-connected devices, but works best on a laptop or PC.

We recommend using Google Chrome as your web browser as this is what has been rigorously tried and tested by our tech team.
